      Talkin' Hoops
Welcome to the Glens Falls Basketball Committee Website and “Talkin’ Hoops.” With the season rapidly approaching, I thought it might be time to investigate and discuss some topics and even some controversial issues that hoop fans could spend hours debating.

I’d like to offer some topics as the season unfolds and see what you think. Having coached for 34 years, I have some thoughts on a variety of hardwood subjects that hopefully will draw out opinions from the true hoop junkies who visit this site.

I am looking for comments and views on a current topic which is stated below. Please email your thoughts, rebuttals, and word of basketball wisdom to mppn@adelphia.net. I will review the replies and select ones that would be good to share on the site. Please use good judgment and taste in your comments. You must include your name! Hopefully this feature can grow and improve with the contributions from all you hoop enthusiasts!

TOPIC ONE: Can the possession arrow!
We need to change the held ball rule to eliminate the change of possession arrow. There are far too many jump balls to begin with. It is my understanding that one rationale for instituting the alternating possession arrow was the concern that the game officials be able to administer a “fair toss” between the players who were “jumpin’ it up.”

We can solve this problem easily: all held balls should be awarded to the defensive team.

Otherwise, the offense, whose play usually leads to the held ball, gets 50% of the calls! I’d like to see the defense, whose play forces most of the held balls, be rewarded for aggressive play and not penalized because the arrow points the other way!

There would be no more confusion as to which team has the arrow and it would take pressure off the scoring table to get the arrow right (which is not always that simple!)

Let me know what you think!
